1.  New Double Opt-In Process

As of 21 September 2003 the Auto-Responders.net autoresponder service will change to being a 100% Double Opt-In autoresponder service to meet the latest legal requirements and industry standards.

The new changes will be transparent to you, and you WILL NOT be required to change ANYTHING.  That also includes the sign-up form on your website.

How It Works
 
Here's how the double opt-in process works when:
 

a) 
A Customer Signs-Up Using A Form Or Sending A Blank
      Email To Your Autoresponder

Step 1
A visitor signs up through your web form or sends a blank email to your autoresponder address, but they are not added to your list. 

Step 2
The visitor immediately receives an email with a validation link that they must click on, in order to validate their subscription and be added to your list.

When your customer has clicked on the validation link, they will be added to your Follow-Up sequence and receive the first of your messages.  You will be sent the usual notification that you have a new subscriber.
 
 
 
b) Using The "Import Mailing List" Option In The Client Menu

  1. Importing Subscribers To The Follow-Up Sequence
     
    Step 1
    The visitor immediately receives an email with a validation link that they must click on, in order to validate their subscription and be added to your list.
     
    When they have clicked on the validation link, they will be added to the Follow-Up Sequence, and will receive the first of your messages from you.
     

  2. Importing Subscribers To The Archive Database
     
    Step 1
    The visitor immediately receives an email with a validation link that they must click on, in order to validate their subscription and be added to your list.
     
    When they have clicked on the validation link, they will be added to the Archive database.

 
 
c)
Manually Adding A Recipient Using The "Add a Recipient"
     Option In The Client Menu

The visitor immediately receives an email with a validation link that they must click on, in order to validate their subscription and be added to your list.
 
When they have clicked on the validation link, they will be added to the Follow-Up Sequence/Archive Database.  Depending on which one you chose, they will receive the first of your messages.
 


 
Spam Policy for auto-responders.net
This double opt-in/validation process ensures that everyone coming through our system and to your list, wants and intends to receive your mailings. So later on, if they decide to accuse you (or us) of spam, we can come to your defense with viable *proof* (in most cases including IP address), that they in fact requested your mailings.

 
Beat Spam -  Make A Bigger Profit
 
Email spam is an ever increasing problem these days. As a result, data centers and web hosting facilities are becoming less and less tolerant of complaints. Just one spam complaint is enough to cause damage to an online business. As a result, double opt-in (or validated opt-in) systems are now becoming the industry standard.

Remember: The size of your list in terms of numbers means nothing. It is the quality of your list that matters. I had a list of 1,000 that often outperformed another of my lists that numbered over 10,000! The list of 10,000 was built primarily through co-registration services, while the smaller list was build strictly through visitors to my web-site. So when building your list, always think in terms of quality and NOT quantity!

 
Pan For Gold
 
The new double opt-in system will enable you to "pan for gold" by filtering out the dead weight - such as the leads that don't read or aren't truly interested in receiving your mailings (ie, the type of people that are typically the ones to accuse YOU of spamming!). The result is that you're ensured of having a list of subscribers that are anxious and willing to hear from you on a regular basis - exactly what permission email marketing is all about!
